Aikido

The Art of Peace

Aikido is a highly refined martial art developed in the 20th century as both a means of martial practice and spiritual training. Aikido continues the evolution of the ancient Bushido code, which holds as a central tenement the concept of “ending the fight.”

Aikido requires no advantage in strength or speed, and is practiced successfully by people of all ages and abilities. Aikido practice will help you develop coordination, flexibility, concentration, and communication skills. It will also help you improve and maintain health and fitness, as well as self-esteem. Aikido develops coordination of mind and body. Through its philosophy and techniques, aikido brings us into harmony with others and ourselves.

The physical aspects of Aikido, as graceful and dynamic as they are, are only the outward manifestation of what is, most importantly, a real and direct way to cultivate joy and quality in our lives.

The founder of Aikido was Master Morihei Ueshiba. He became known as O-Sensei (Great Teacher). O-Sensei created Aikido as a path to universal harmony and world peace, believing that Aikido was a way of attaining this goal and that violence and aggression could be turned aside by harmony of spirit.
